Since 2002, Biomimicry 3.8 has been offering week-long immersion workshops to introduce participants to a new way of viewing and valuing the genius that surrounds us in the natural world.

Our immersion workshops provide participants the opportunity to delve deep into learning biomimicry giving participants hands-on experience with biomimicry among a group of cross-disciplinary peers and with the guidance of our experienced instructors.

Thre are two types of immersion workshops focused on two critical biomimicry skill sets:

1) Discovering Nature’s Genius | While in an exciting outdoor environment participants learn how to describe the function and context of the biological phenomenon that they observe and learn the biology to design approach to biomimetic design. The Discover workshops emphasize Life’s Principles, design lessons from Nature, and the rules for the way life/nature works.

2) Applying the Biomimicry Thinking Methodology | These workshops emphasize the challenge to biology Biomimicry Thinking approach. Participants learn how to scope a biomimetic design brief, initiate, catalogue, and create meaning out of biological research, and develop concepts inspired by the research findings. The Biomimicry Thinking workshops focus on a specific discipline, for example, social innovation, the built environment, or design.

Workshop locations are selected using a strict criteria. We seek out intimate venues with a high commitment to sustainability, proximity to nature and comfortable accommodations all found in an interesting and unique ecosystem.

Each day will be brimming with content, and you should plan to clear your agenda and fully immerse yourself in the biomimicry experience! You will have exposure to nature’s design lessons, experiential play with those lessons in a range of habitats, all in an interactive collaborative setting.

One of each type of the immersion workshops are required to complete the Biomimicry Specialist Certification Program.
